The Winter Upward Basketball League is open for boys and girls from Kindergarten through 8th grade.
Practices and games begin in January, with optional pre-season basketball clinics offered in December. During the season, each team will practice one hour each week on a night, time, and location that is consistent throughout the season. Games are for one hour on eight consecutive Saturdays at a time that will vary each week. Gym locations are at Crestwood Church, Mt. Pisgah UMC, and St. Mark's UMC.
In November, every child is evaluated at the mandatory skill assessment and attempts are made to create fair and equal teams and fair individual match-ups. (Absolute equal match-ups are desirable but, of course, not always possible.) Every child plays at least half the game and every child is recognized after each game.
Each player receives an Upward Basketball uniform and an end-of-season gift.
Upward Sports Programs are designed to promote character and self esteem in each child and to ensure that "every child plays, every child learns, and every child is a winner."
Dates and information regarding the 2017 season can be found on our Key Dates page for the Winter League. If you would like to learn more about the program, please review our Frequently Asked Questions page or contact the Recreation Office.
